How To Organize A Home Bar

Whether you enjoy having a few drinks after a long day at work or you love playing host to friends, family, and neighbors, creating a home bar can be a welcome addition to your home, and it can even save you money. After all, a night out on the town can easily become very expensive, so why not put that money to better use?

But while building a bar is one thing, organizing it is another. And for your bar to deliver the best experience possible, you will want it to be well-organized. Here are some tips for how to organize a bar that will have you mixing drinks and pouring drafts like a well-oiled machine.

Getting Started

You may have dreams of owning a well-stocked bar, but it’s best to start out slow. Only add your favorite liquors, wine, and beer at first. You can always build up your collection of spirits later. Make sure you include some sodas, juices, and a mixer or two, so you have them on hand when needed. You’ll also want a few lemons and limes and plenty of ice.

Must-Have Bar Tools

There is no shortage of bar tools out there to choose from, but when starting your bar, you’ll want to stick with the tried-and-true basics. Most importantly, you will want to have the following:

With these tools, there’s practically nothing you can’t prepare.

Drinkware

Your favorite bar probably has a wide range of drinkware that allows them to serve certain drinks in certain glasses. But you don’t need to spend too much money on such a diverse collection of glasses for a home bar. Instead, all you really need is three types of glasses: wine glasses, pint glasses, and rocks glasses. With these three types of glasses, you can serve just about anything.

Home Bar Organization

A compact and efficient home bar is one that is both simple and organized. A tip to keep things clean is to only display your go-to spirits, glasses, and essential bar tools, such as your corkscrew and ice bucket. Everything else should be kept out of sight, but close by, so they can be easily accessed.

If you have a larger space for your bar or a larger liquor collection, then you will want to display your liquor bottles by placing the shorter bottles up front and the taller bottles in the back. Glassware can be hung from a rack or stored away in a cabinet. Your bar tools can be stored in a drawer using a drawer organizer to keep things tidy or on a nearby shelf within arm’s reach.

You should also have a small refrigerator nearby with fridge bins inside for keeping your mixers, juice, and soda nice and cold and organized. And keeping your citrus in a bowl on top of the bar is not only a good way to keep them all in one place, but their bright colors will also add a welcome touch of color to the bar.

Follow these steps and your bar will be up and running in no time. All that’s left to do is to invite some guests to help you break your new bar in.
