Today we welcome Ashlyn to our Q&A Blog with Michael Graves Design. We first got acquainted with Ashlyn when we came across an unboxing video of our sage green Quick Fold Cane! We knew immediately Ashlyn would be perfect for our Monthly Delight Feature.
Tell us about yourself, what’s your story?
I’m 26 years old and was recently diagnosed with the Ehlers Danlos Trifecta. Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Getting a diagnosis helped put a lot of puzzle pieces together for me. I’m also an adult figure skater and used to compete when I was younger. Trying to navigate re-entering the skating world while dealing with disability has been a challenge but I want to continue skating as long as I can.
What is one thing you’d like our readers to know?
Just remember that a lot of disabilities are complex, dynamic, and sometimes invisible. Someone may need a mobility aid one day and not the next. A lot of disabled folks’ pain levels and mobility levels change constantly, even hour to hour.
How did it lead you to MGD?
I found MGD through a review on TikTok and loved the design and aesthetic of the quick fold cane. I decided my first cane purchase would be through MGD and it wasn’t a difficult decision.
What do you love most about the company Michael Graves Design?
I love that Michael Graves Design created aids that are truly useful and easy to use while also making them stylish and unique.
What do you use, the C-Grip Cane or the Quick-Fold?
I use the Quick Fold.
What do the Michael Graves Design canes bring to the table that others were lacking?
The adjusting button on the quick fold is SO Much easier to use than other canes I’ve tried out, and my cane is beautiful and something I don’t feel embarrassed to use.
Which color cane is your favorite?
I have the sage green and I’m honestly obsessed. But I also love the shiitake, clay, and slate blue canes they have!
